As Christian faithful marked Palm Sunday across the country, Bishop Peter Kimani of the Catholic Diocese of Embu has called out Kenyan politicians for involving the public in their personal disputes and turning public forums into battlegrounds for their grievances.

Speaking on Palm Sunday during a sermon at St. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Karurina, the bishop expressed concern over the increasing tendency among leaders to hurl insults and launch personal attacks during public addresses instead of pursuing peaceful resolutions.

He cautioned that such conduct is harmful, fueling political animosity that often escalates into violence, loss of lives, and destruction of property as opposing factions clash.

"The country can only heal when leaders learn to forgive each other and move on without involving the public in their feuds," the Bishop said.

Bishop Kimani also appealed to Kenyan youth to steer clear of being manipulated by politicians to incite unrest, urging them instead to become ambassadors of peace and work towards the greater good of society.

He expressed concern over the growing dependency among young people on political handouts, noting that many have been reduced to begging rather than seeking productive employment or entrepreneurial opportunities.

Meanwhile at the Holy Basilica in Nairobi, Father Michael Ndichu emphasized the power of prayer in overcoming life’s challenges, saying, "Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane and prayed when he was troubled. In the same way, we should face our struggles by seeking God in prayer—it’s where our strength begins," said Father Ndichu.

He reminded the congregation of that pivotal moment when Jesus, in his time of anguish, turned to prayer, urging the faithful to approach their struggles with the same devotion.

Father Ndichu also called on Christians to embrace humility and peace, saying, "Live in humility and peace, and avoid the conflicts that often divide people. Embrace faithfulness and follow the teachings of Christ, which highlight kindness and reconciliation."

Similar celebrations have taken place worldwide as Christians come together to observe this day of reflection, renewal, and hope.

Palm Sunday serves as a call for all believers to prepare their hearts for the coming of Easter, embracing faith and Christ’s teachings as they face life’s challenges.
